Why You should choose this course
Because it is flexible...
You can start your Diploma studies at any time of the year and work
at whatever pace fits in with your other commitments. Most students
find they are able to complete the Diploma within one year, by part-time
study. Discrete sections of the course may be studied for professional
development, and a Statement of Attainment provided. As a sub-degree
Diploma, the course attracts both non-graduate and graduate entrants.
The learning materials avoid unnecessary technical jargon and explain
essential points in clear, straightforward language …and
comprehensive.
The course covers every important aspect of career guidance,
providing students with knowledge about the theoretical basis of the
discipline, advanced counselling skills, and how to use a range of
vocational assessment instruments; as well as covering areas such
as job search skills and the world of work in Australia. This means
you will acquire tools and develop skills that will be useful in schools,
employment agencies, personnel departments, or in private consultancy.
Because it is nationally accredited…
Qualifications issued by the College (the Diploma and Statements
of Attainment) are issued according to the requirements of the Australian
Quality Training Framework. They contain all details, signatures and
the “Nationally Recognised Training” logo to ensure that
your Diploma or Statement(s) of Attainment are properly recognised
by Australian organisations of all kinds. ...and
attracts professional recognition.
Graduates (with one year of field experience) are eligible
for professional membership in the Australian Association of Career
Counsellors, the peak professional body in the field. One of the advantages
of AACC membership is the ability to purchase low-cost professional
indemnity. Because it is all we do.
This College offers only one course – the Diploma of
Career Guidance – so all our energies are focussed on providing
the best possible training for Career Counsellors, Careers Advisors
and other kinds of Career Practitioners. The staff of the College
are fully trained professionals with verified qualifications and experience
in the field of Career Guidance. Because it represents
excellent value for money.

Because Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is available.
RPL is available to all students, for any competency (knowledge
and skill) that they already possess. This applies to all parts of
the course except for Book 1 and Book 15 (which are an introduction
and a summary of the course). For instance, if you have qualifications
or considerable experience in general counselling, you are eligible
to claim RPL for Books 4 and 5 (Generic Counselling Skills). Documentary
evidence (or a test) is required for RPL in respect of particular
competencies, as described in the College’s Code of Practice.
Because you will receive a high level of student
support.
A group of skilled and experienced career professionals act
as tutors. Staff are available to discuss problems and progress with
you 16 hours a day, by means of telephone, fax or email. The College
is committed to returning any assignment within a week of receiving
it. We also have an appeals procedure by which, if you are not satisfied
with the award given to one of your assignments (or with our response
to an application for RPL), you may appeal to an independent Appeals
Panel for re-assessment (or reconsideration of your RPL application).
Because we are committed to continuous improvement.
All learning materials used in this course are reviewed at
least annually to ensure that they represent the current thinking
among top professionals in the field and (where relevant) are the
latest versions available. We work hard to identify areas for further
improvement, among other things by requiring students to submit a
’Participant Book Review’ on each of the fifteen Books
of course notes. This gives you an opportunity to offer suggestions
and criticisms. Other ways by which we seek to improve th ecourse
include consultations with professionals in the career guidance industry,
and with other training providers. Because your investment is safeguarded.
The fees you pay are protected in a “Student Fee Security Account”.
If you pay full fees in advance, and at any stage you withdraw from
the course, most of your unused fees will be refunded. You are charged
the single-Book fee ($235) for each Book you have completed, and the
balance (less a $20 administration fee) is refunded to you (or to
the sponsor who paid your fees).
