Choosing a career is one of the most important life decisions we face.
As a result of poor and uninformed choices, many people find themselves
in occupations that are really unsuited to their skills, interests,
aptitudes and values.
What's more, with globalisation and new technologies reshaping the
economy, the workplace, and the very nature of learning and work,
career choices are becoming more complex and displaced workers
more numerous.
As a result, many more trained careers practitioners are needed to
help Australians of all ages to select appropriate careers and successfully
navigate career transitions.
The Australian College of Career Guidance's Diploma of Career
Guidance is a leading product in its field. It has been written in-house
by experienced careers professionals, incorporates the latest research
and practice, and is tailored to local conditions.
Launched in 1997 after several years' development, the course was
revised and re-accredited under the competency-based system in October
2003.
Many prospective students of the course are already engaged in
careers work; in schools, employment agencies, personnel
departments, or rehabilitation services. Others wish to enter the
field of career guidance. The Diploma of Career Guidance supplies
formally accredited training that equips students to provide a more
thorough, professional service to their clients.
The goal of the course is to enable students to become versatile careers
professionals; able to operate in varied career guidance settings,
with people of all ages and backgrounds, either independently or as
part of a team. |
